Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information WIC Compass collects when you use the site, why, and the choices you have. We keep collection to the minimum needed to run the site.

What we do not collect

There are no accounts or sign-ups on this site. We do not ask for your WIC card number, Social Security number, date of birth, income, immigration status, or health information, and you should never type them into any page here.

Searches and location

  • When you search by ZIP code, city, or state, the text you type is sent to our server so we can return matching clinics. We do not attach it to your name or keep a searchable history of it.
  • As you type, the search box may send what you have typed so far to our server to suggest matching places. The same applies.
  • If you tap "Use my current location" on the Near Me page, your browser asks for permission first. If you agree, your device sends its position to our server for that one search. Before it is sent, the position is rounded to about one kilometer, and we do not save it.

Contact form

If you write to us through the contact form, we receive the name, email address, subject, and message you enter, along with your IP address and browser type. We use them to read and answer your message and to block spam and abuse. We do not sell them or use them for marketing, and we do not share them except where the law requires. We keep messages for as long as we need them to respond or to keep a record of a correction, then delete them.

Server logs and cookies

Like most websites, our server records basic technical details with each request: your IP address, browser type, the page requested, and the time. We use these logs to keep the site running, fix errors, and block abuse.

The site sets a small number of cookies that it needs to work, such as a session cookie and a security token that protects against forged requests. They do not track you across other websites. Google Analytics and Google AdSense, both described below, set their own cookies.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which pages people use, so we can fix what is confusing. Google Analytics sets cookies and receives the page you viewed, the page that sent you here, your approximate location (city or region, not your address), and your browser, device, and operating system. Google also receives your IP address to provide the service.

We send Google the page address without anything after a question mark, so the ZIP code or city you search for is not included. We do not send your exact location from the Near Me page, your contact form message, or anything you type into a search box. We do not turn on Google's advertising features in Google Analytics.

You can block Google Analytics with a browser setting or extension, or with Google's opt-out add-on.

Advertising

We show advertisements through Google AdSense. Google sets cookies and receives information about your visit, such as your device, browser, and approximate location, to show and measure ads:

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website or other websites.
  • Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
  • You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings or aboutads.info.

Links to other sites

Our pages link to state WIC agency sites, usda.gov, and Google Maps. The "Get Directions" buttons open Google Maps in a new tab. Once you leave our site, that site's own privacy policy applies, and we have no control over what it collects. Fonts, icons, and scripts used by our pages are served from our own domain instead of a third-party host.

Children

This site is meant for a general adult audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act or the EU and UK GDPR may give you the right to ask what information a website holds about you, to have it deleted, or to opt out of certain uses. We do not sell personal information. Because we do not keep accounts or personal profiles, there is usually very little to look up, but you are welcome to ask.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle data, for example when we add or change an analytics or advertising service, we will update this page and the date at the top. Please check back occasionally.
