About WIC Compass

WIC Compass is a private website that helps families find a WIC clinic near them and call with the right information. We are not part of the USDA, the WIC program, or any state agency, and we are not a government site.
Who runs this site
WIC Compass is run by Robert B., publisher and editor. Corrections sent through the contact form go to them.
Robert B. is not a nutritionist or WIC staff member. The site collects what each state's WIC program publishes, links to the source, and corrects errors when they are reported.
This guide is independent. Nobody at the USDA or at a state or local WIC agency reviews, endorses, or pays for what appears here. Official WIC information is at fns.usda.gov/wic, and anything that involves your eligibility, your appointment, or your benefits has to go through your state WIC agency.
Finding the right clinic address and phone number, then working out whether you need an appointment, takes more effort than it should. Many people looking are pregnant, caring for a newborn, or short on time, so we put the practical details first.
Please do not share personal or health details with us
We never ask for your WIC card number, Social Security number, income, immigration status, or health information, and this site has no form that collects them. If a website or message claiming to be us asks for any of that, do not respond to it.
Where our information comes from
- Clinic lists: Each state's clinics come from that state agency's own public clinic locator or downloadable list, not from a national database. A state goes live here only after we have its official list. The How we verify page names the source for every state and the month we last checked it.
- Approved foods: For states where we publish approved foods, the page is built from that state agency's own approved-foods document or database. We group it into food types, package sizes, and brands so it is easier to scan. We do not add, change, or guess which products are approved, and the page shows the document's date and when we last checked it.
- Card and appointment guides: The WIC card help and WIC appointments pages restate what each state's WIC program and, where a state leaves it to them, its county or city WIC agencies publish: phone numbers, apps, replacement steps, and what to bring. Every section links to its sources. Where a state does not say, the page says so instead of guessing.
- Hours and appointments: We show hours and "appointment only" labels only when the state's list provides them. Some states do not include hours in their lists, and those listings say to call.
- Map positions and distances: Where a state's list gives map coordinates we use them. For the rest, we looked up positions with the U.S. Census Bureau geocoder and, for a small number of addresses it could not match, OpenStreetMap. ZIP code searches measure from the approximate center of the ZIP, in a straight line, not driving distance.
What we cannot do
- We cannot check whether you qualify for WIC, enroll you, or book an appointment. Only a WIC clinic or your state agency can.
- We cannot see your WIC account, card balance, or benefits.
- We cannot give medical, nutrition, or legal advice. Our pages are general information, and your situation may differ.
Advertising and funding
This site is free to use and is funded by advertising. We show ads through Google AdSense. The ads are placed by Google, are labeled as advertising, and do not change what our pages say: clinic details and food lists come from the state sources named on each page, and no advertiser pays to be listed or changes a listing.
