WIC Compass

Ohio WIC Approved Foods

Ohio WIC's Authorized Food List sets the rules for each food (sizes, allowed types, and what is not allowed) and shows the approved brands next to them. This page covers 6 groups: dairy and eggs, whole grains, cereal, beans, peanut butter and fish, juice, and fruits and vegetables, with 96 named brands for yogurt, pasta, bread, tortillas, rice, hot cereal and juice. Ohio's list prefers the least expensive brand.

This page is built from the Ohio WIC Authorized Food List (updated April 2026) from Ohio Department of Health, Ohio WIC. The list is footer-dated March 2026 and the state posted it as updated April 2026. We last checked it in September 2026. The state updates its list over time, so confirm a product in the WICShopper app or with your WIC office before you shop. Published by Robert B. (publisher and editor)

Before you shop: check your balance first. WICShopper app, your receipt, your clinic, or the store service desk. Card declined? Call 1-800-755-4769, Family Health Hotline (Help Me Grow), or see Ohio WIC card help.

Check brands in the state list or the app

Ohio shows most brands as logos and package photos. We read them from the state's list, but a few logos were too small to read with confidence and are left out, and the cereal section shows brand names only (the state shows the boxes). If a brand is missing here, it may still be approved: scan the product in the WICShopper app or check the state's list, which is marked "Least Expensive Brand Preferred". Infant formula and infant foods are on a separate Ohio list.

Your benefits decide what you can buy

The state's list says to check your "EBT Card Benefits" printout and your receipts for the individual items on your WIC Nutrition Card. A food can be on the list and still not be in your package.

How to check a product before you buy

  1. 1

Check your benefits. Your "EBT Card Benefits" printout and receipts show the items on your WIC Nutrition Card.

  2. 2

Match the size and type. Use this page for the allowed sizes and the "not allowed" lists.

  3. 3

Scan the product. The WICShopper app can scan products to check that they are WIC-authorized. It cannot scan fresh fruits and vegetables.

  4. 4

Couldn't buy it? Ohio says to use "I couldn't buy this!" in the WICShopper app to report the problem, or call the help line below.

Common questions

Is every Ohio WIC brand listed on this page?

No. Ohio's Authorized Food List shows most brands as logos and package photos. We typed in the ones we could read with confidence. A few logos were too small to read and the cereal pages show boxes, so a brand missing here may still be approved. Scan the product in the WICShopper app or check the state's list.

What does "least expensive brand preferred" mean on Ohio's list?

It is printed on the cover of the state's list and above its cereal pages. It means the state prefers the least expensive approved brand where you have a choice. Your WIC Nutrition Card benefits and the WICShopper app show what is approved for you.

Which milk does Ohio WIC allow?

White, pasteurized, vitamin D fortified milk. It is low fat (1% or ½%) or skim unless whole or reduced fat (2%) is specified for you. Flavored, organic, super skim and fat free plus milk are not allowed. Gallon is 128 ounces, half gallon 64 ounces and quart 32 ounces. Non-fat dry milk, low lactose, lactose free and soy milk are allowed only when specified.

What size cheese, yogurt and eggs are covered?

Cheese is 16 ounces only, yogurt is 32-ounce containers only, and eggs are a one dozen carton of large, grade A or AA, white chicken eggs that are cage-free.

How do whole grains add up to 32 ounces?

Ohio's whole-grains key shows that sizes can be combined to reach the full 32 ounces: 8 and 24 ounces, 12 and 20, 14 and 18, 16 and 16, or one 32-ounce item. Cereal, oatmeal, brown rice, bread and tortillas follow the same idea. Check the exact ounces in your benefits.

Which juice sizes are covered?

Shelf stable juice is 100% unsweetened juice in 64 ounce plastic bottles only, and orange juice can be any brand. Frozen juice is 100% unsweetened in 11.5 or 12 ounce cans that reconstitute to 48 ounces. Fruit drinks, sweetened juices, cocktails and powders are not allowed.

Can I use WIC fruits and vegetables for any kind?

You can choose any combination of fresh, frozen or canned fruits and vegetables up to the dollar amount authorized, and unused dollars are not refunded as cash or credit. Each form has a not-allowed list, such as party trays and dried fruit for fresh, and added sugar or sauces for frozen.

How current is this page?

We built it from Ohio's Authorized Food List, dated April 6, 2026, which the state posted in April. We last checked it in September 2026. Ohio updates its list over time, so confirm a product in the WICShopper app or with your WIC clinic before you shop.

About this page: This is general information, not medical or nutrition advice, and it does not replace what your WIC clinic tells you. WIC Compass is an independent website, not part of the USDA, the WIC program, or Ohio's WIC agency. We turned the state's product database into groups and counts; we do not add, change, or guess which products are approved. See how we verify our information.
